2016 Nanka Banquet
Bryan Davis Taishi Judo Club Nanka Junior Referee of the Year Bryan began his judo career when he was nine years old, in 2010. Basketball season had just ended and a parent of a teammate of his suggested we try Judo. Bryan instantly fell in love with the sport. He has always been a hands-on kid, so Judo was a perfect fit. When Bryan began Judo he noticed an improvement with his grades, behavior, and peers, being named to the USJF honor society. Bryan has never been afraid of hard work, and knows that you give 100% with everything he does. Bryan practices upward of six days a week, traveling to many different Judo clubs, just to improve his technique and because he loves to be on the mat. He also shows up to practice even when injured. He works on his techniques with the parts of the body that are not injured. He always seems to find the time to help with the little ones before his own practice as well. Soon Bryan was introduced to refereeing. As a ref, he has learned the many rules that come with Judo. He understands Judo better as a ref combined with his competition. This helped him improve his Judo and made him fall more in love with the sport. He has since become a Regional Referee and has refereed tournaments such as the San Jose Buddhist Sensei Memorial. As a competitor Bryan had competed and placed at Local, Regional, and National tournaments. He hopes to work his way up to compete at the elite senior level, possibly one day making it to the Olympics without losing the spirit of Judo along the way. -
